How to move crypto from Binance to your own wallet
Crypto on an exchange sits in the exchange's account. Moving it to a self-custody wallet means the keys are yours. This guide shows two ways to do it with OB Wallet: the Bring in from Binance button, which fills in the address for you, and an ordinary withdrawal.
Why move it at all
On an exchange, the exchange holds the keys. That is convenient for trading, but your access depends on the exchange: its account rules, its withdrawal limits and its decisions. In a self-custody wallet, the keys are made and kept on your phone. We cannot move your coins, and there is no account for us to close. (The issuer of a token can still freeze tokens at an address: Tether can do that with USDT. OB Wallet warns you before you send to a frozen address.)
The other side of it: you keep your recovery phrase. If you lose it and your phone, nobody can restore the wallet for you, us included. Write it down before you move money in.
The quick way: Bring in from Binance
In OB Wallet's daily wallet, the receive page has a Bring in from Binance button. It opens the transfer in the Binance app with your wallet's address and network already filled in, so there is nothing to copy and no network to get wrong.
- Open your daily wallet and tap Receive.
- Pick the asset and its network, for example USDT on Tron.
- Tap Bring in from Binance and enter the amount. The screen shows the network it arrives on.
- Tap Continue in Binance. The Binance app opens with the transfer ready.
- Check it and confirm in Binance, with Binance's own security steps.
- In Binance, the recipient shows as "Merchant". That is the name of the service that opens the transfer; the money comes to your wallet's address, the one OB Wallet shows.
- Binance shows its own withdrawal fee before you confirm. Nothing is charged in OB Wallet for this.
- Binance sends nothing below its own minimum. For USDT it is 5 USDT on each network, and OB Wallet shows the minimum for each coin.
- The button is there for USDT and USDC on Tron, Ethereum, Polygon and Solana, and for the main coins of the networks OB Wallet supports, but not for TON.
- It is in the daily wallet only. To move funds on to your cold wallet, send them from the daily wallet afterwards.
- If Binance will not start the transfer in your country, use the manual way below.
The manual way: an ordinary withdrawal
- In OB Wallet, open the wallet, tap Receive, pick the asset and network, and copy the address or show its QR code.
- In Binance, start a withdrawal of the same coin.
- Paste the address or scan the QR code.
- Choose the same network as in OB Wallet. For USDT on Tron, that is the Tron (TRC20) network. Sending on a different network from the one your address is on can lose the money.
- Enter the amount, check the fee Binance shows, and confirm.
- For a first transfer, send a small amount first and check that it arrives.
Copy the address from OB Wallet itself, never from an old message or from your history: that is exactly where look-alike addresses are planted. See how look-alike address scams work.
Picking the network
Binance usually offers more than one network for the same coin, and shows a different withdrawal fee for each. Any of them works, as long as it is the one your OB Wallet address is on: a Tron address for the Tron network, an Ethereum address for Ethereum, and so on. Compare the fees Binance shows, then pick the matching receive page in OB Wallet. If you are not sure which network you will need later, Tron is a common choice for USDT, and OB Wallet can send it on without TRX.
After it arrives
- The coins appear in your wallet's list. Each network is shown separately, so USDT on Tron and USDT on Ethereum are two rows.
- To send USDT on Tron onward with no TRX, see how to send USDT on Tron without TRX.
- Keep savings apart: OB Wallet gives you a separate cold wallet, with its own recovery phrase, for money you do not spend.
Questions
Is it safe to move crypto from Binance to my own wallet?
Yes, as long as you send to the right address on the right network. The Bring in from Binance button fills both in for you. With a manual withdrawal, copy the address from OB Wallet and choose the same network.
Why does Binance show the recipient as "Merchant"?
That is the name of the service that opens the transfer. The money goes to the OB Wallet address shown in the app.
How much does it cost?
Binance charges its own withdrawal fee and shows it before you confirm. OB Wallet charges nothing for bringing coins in.
What is the minimum?
Binance's own: for USDT it is 5 USDT on each network. OB Wallet shows the minimum for other coins before you continue.
Can I bring coins straight into my cold wallet?
No. Bringing coins in from Binance is in the daily wallet only. Send them on to the cold wallet afterwards.
